How do Sicker Canadians with Chronic Disease Rate the Health Care System?

Sicker Canadians are the most frequent users of the health care systems, and they report experiencing considerable barriers to accessing the care they need. Cost is one of the major barriers identified. For example, almost a quarter (23%) of sicker Canadians said they had skipped a dose of medication or did not fill a prescription due to cost, compared to just 10% of the general population.

How Engaged are Canadians in their Primary Care?

Results from the 2010 Commonwealth Fund International Health Policy Survey

Only 48% of Canadians feel involved and are actively participating in their health care. More engaged patients feel better about their health and better use our system's resources and services. In a report released today, How Engaged are Canadians in their Primary Care? Results from the 2010 Commonwealth Fund International Health Policy Survey, the Health Council of Canada takes a look at why less than half of Canadians are taking a more active role in maintaining their health.

Understanding and Improving Aboriginal Maternal and Child Health in Canada

In January and February of 2011, the Health Council of Canada held a series of seven regional sessions across Canada to learn what programs and strategies are making a difference in the health of Aboriginal mothers and young children. The goal of the report is to create a better understanding of and support for programs and initiatives that have the potential to reduce health disparities between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal Canadians.
