About Us

Canada's Prime Minister and the provincial and territorial premiers established the Health Council of Canada and later enhanced our role through two agreements referred to as "the Accords" - the 2003 First Ministers' Accord on Health Care Renewal, and the 2004 10-Year Plan to Strengthen Health Care. The ministers of health in the 12 jurisdictions that signed the Accords are the Health Council's "corporate members."

Funded by Health Canada, we are an independent, non-profit organization.

The work of the Health Council of Canada is overseen by councillors from across Canada and supported by a secretariat comprised of an senior management team and staff based in Toronto.

In September 2013, results of an independent evaluation of the Health Council of Canada by KPMG, as required under the Council’s 2010-2015 funding agreement with Health Canada, were received and are available here
