Les Vertesi
Dr. Les Vertesi was recently appointed Executive Director of BC's new Health Services Purchasing Organization but still finds time to work as an emergency room physician at a busy hospital on a part time basis. He has over 30 years' clinical experience and 12 years as department head in a trauma referral emergency department. In addition to his clinical duties, Dr. Vertesi holds a faculty appointment with Simon Fraser University's Institute for Health Research and Education, and is associate director of Health Research with the Fraser Health Authority of BC. His book, Broken Promises: The Trouble with Canadian Medicare...and How to Fix it, was published in 2003. Dr. Vertesi earned his MD from the University of Toronto, and a Masters Degree in Clinical Epidemiology at UBC in 1989, with special emphasis on computer modelling in management. He was the first recipient of the Justice Institute of BC's Joseph Cohen Award for Outstanding Contributions to Public Safety. |
